Q: How do I register my domain?

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Management Console
  2. Right click on the "Access Rules"
  3. Click on "Register Domain"
  4. Use the Drop Down box and select your Domain name or type in your Domain Name and click on the "OK" button

Q: How do I register more than one domain?

  1. You can register more than one domain by using the same steps for registering a single domain. Just repeat the steps for each domain you want to register.

Q: How do I setup authentication?

ISA 2000:

ISA 2004:

  1. Open up the ISA Server Management Console
  2. Click the + sign next to Configuration on the left console window
  3. Click on Networks
  4. On the right console window right click on the Internal section and select properties
  5. Click on the Web Proxy tab
  6. Click on the Authentication button at the bottom of the tab
  7. Check the box next to Integrated under the Method Column, and check the box next to "Require all users to authenticate"
  8. Click the OK button, then Apply the changes

bt-WebFilter Standalone Version:

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Right click on the bt-WebFilter (Standalone version) at the top of the console and select properties
  3. Click on the Proxy Options tab, and check the box next to "Ask Unauthenticated user for Identification"
  4. Select your domain, then click on the Apply or OK button

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Right click on "Access Rules" and select "Properties"
  3. Select the type of Access Policy you want to apply (Restrictive, Permission, Combo)

Q: How do I filter by an IP Address Range?

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Click the "+" next to Access Rules
  3. Right click on IP Range, and select Register IP Range
  4. Type in the IP Address in the From field and the TO field, and click the Ok button
  5. Configure the IP Range options, or create a Custom Access Policy and apply it to the IP Range

Q: How do I add a new URL to a category in the URL Control List?

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Click on the "+" next to URL Control List
  3. Right click on the Category you want to add the URL to and select Properties
  4. Click on the Included URL's tab and click the Add button
  5. Type in the URL address (*www.burstek.com*) and click the Ok button
  6. Click the Apply button, then click the Ok button

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Right click on the bt-WebFilter Server and select Properties
  3. Click on the Proxy Option tab
  4. In the Common Options section type in your TCP port and click the Ok button

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Right click on the bt-WebFilter Server and select Properties
  3. Click on the Replication Options tab
  4. Under the Replication Mode Options select Automatic, or Manual

  6. Type in the Target server name, and click the Ok button
  7. Click the Apply button, then the Ok button

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Right click on the bt-WebFilter Server and select Properties
  3. Click on the Proxy Options tab
  4. In the Authentication section click the check box next to Basic with this Domain
  5. Click the Apply button, then the Ok button

Q: How do I setup and apply Quotas?

  1. From the bt-WebFilter Console, select Quota
  2. Right-click to display the Shortcut menu
  3. Select New> Quota
  4. Enter the Quota Name
  5. Select the Period of Validity
    • Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
  6. Select the Severity Level:
    • Strict (Access denied when quota reached)
    • Lite (Access allowed - logs generated)
  7. Click “Apply” to save your settings
  8. Click “OK” when you have finished creating new quotas

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Click the "+" next to the URL Control List
  3. Right click on the Category you want to excluded the URL from, and select Properties
  4. Click on the Excluded URL tab and click on the Add button
  5. Type in the URL address (*www.burstek.com*) and click on the Ok button
  6. Click on the Apply button, then the Ok button

  3. In the name field type in the name of the schedule

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Click on the Custom Access Policies
  3. On the right hand pane right click on your Policy and select Properties
  4. Click on the Exemptions tab and click the Add button, and select User or IP
  5. Select the user or type in the user name or IP address and click the Ok button
  6. Click the Apply button, then the Ok button

  1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  2. Right click on the bt-WebFilter Server and select All Tasks > Settings Export or Settings Import
  3. Follow the On Screen instructions

Q: How do I push my proxy settings to all my users in my network?

  1. Login to your Domain Controller
  2. Go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computer
  3. Right click on your Domain and select Properties
  4. Click on the Group Policy tab and click the Edit button
  5. Under the User Configuration section, click the “+” next to Windows Settings
  6. Click the “+” next to Internet Explorer Maintenance, and click on the Connection folder
  7. In the right hand pane, double click on the Connection Settings folder
  8. In the Connection Settings section, select the radio button next to “Import Current Connection Settings”, and click on the Modify Settings button
  9. Click on the LAN Settings button
  10. In the Proxy Server section, check both boxes, and type in the Proxy address (IP Address), and port number (Usually 8080 unless you changed it)
  11. Click the Ok button, then click the Ok button again, then click the ok button again
  12. Close out the Group Policy
  13. Click the Apply button
  14. Click the Ok button
  15. Close out of Active Directory Users and Computer

Q: How do I upgrade to a newer version of bt-WebFilter?

  1. Download the latest version of bt-WebFilter and unzip the file to your desktop
  2. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
  3. Right click on the bt-WebFilter Server
  4. Select All Tasks > Settings Export
  5. The Export Wizard dialog box will walk you through exporting your settings
  6. Execute the new bt-WebFilter install that you downloaded in step 1
  7. Reboot the server

Q: How do I setup the bt-WebFilter with ISA 2004 Server?

  1. Install ISA 2004 Server
  2. Turn authentication on
    1. Open up the ISA Management console
    2. Click the “+” next to Configuration
    3. Click on Networks
    4. On the Right pane, right click on the Internal, and select Properties
    5. Click on the Web Proxy tab
    6. Click on the Authentication button
    7. Integrated should already be checked. Check the box next to require all users to authenticate.
    8. Apply the changes  
  1. Create an Access Rule
    1. Open up the ISA Management Console
    2. Right click on Firewall Policy, select New > Access Rule
    3. Type in the Access Rule Name
    4. Select “Allow” for the Rule Action, and click next
    5. Select “All Outbound Traffic” for Protocols, and click the next button
    6. Click the “Add” button for the Access Rule Sources
    7. Click the “+” next to “Network Sets” and select “All Networks (and Local Host)”, and click the Add button, then the close button, then click the next button
    8. Repeat steps f, and g for “Access Rules Destinations”
    9. In the User Sets screen, make sure “All Users is selected” then click the next button
    10. Click the Finish button
    11. Apply the settings
  1. Install the bt-WebFilter ISA Server version
    1. Download the latest version of bt-WebFilter ISA Server version
    2. Unzip the file
    3. Double click on Setup.exe
    4. Follow the default installation instructions
    5. Once the install is complete, reboot the machine
  1. Configure the bt-WebFilter (By default the bt-WebFilter is set to a Restrictive policy)
    1. Open up the bt-WebFilter Console
    2. Right click on Access Rules, and select Register Domain
    3. Select the Drop down box and click on your domain name and click the Ok button
    4. Click on the Custom Access Policies
    5. On the right hand pane, right click on the Default Custom Policy and select Properties
    6. Click on the Apply to tab, and check the box next to the user groups (Domain Users) you want to apply this policy to

Q: How do I prevent my users from bypassing the bt-WebFilter?

  1. Click on the Start Button > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers
  2. Right click on your Domain and select Properties
  3. Click on the Group Policy Tab
  4. Click on the Default Domain Policy, and click on the Edit button
  5. In the User Configuration section, click the + sign next to Administrative templates, click the + sign next to Windows Components, click the + sign next to Internet Explorer
  6. Click on the Internet Control Panel folder
  7. In the right hand pane, double click on “Disable the Connections Page”
  8. Select the Radio button next to Enable
  9. Click the Apply button, then the OK button
  10. Close out of Group Policy
  11. Click the OK button on the Group Policy Tab
  12. Close out of Active Directory for Users and Computers

Q: How do I get Windows Updates through the bt-WebFilter?

  1. install MSI 3.1 (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893803 ) and the new windows installer located on the Windows update site (http://update.microsoft.com). (The MSI 3.1 requires a reboot and must be installed before proceeding to the windows update site)
