How do I setup LogAnalyzer to automatically update the Category List?
The
URL Category List is continually updated and available for download
daily.
After
starting the bt-LogAnalyzer management console:

Right-click on the URL Control List node in the top left navigation tree

Select 'Import'
|
| |
Click the 'Automatic Updates' tab
|
| |
Check the 'Enable Automatic Update Option' check box
|
| |
Click the Active radio button
|
| |
Click Apply and OK

From
the bt-LogAnalyzer management console:

The percent complete of actively running reports will display and update in the right pane

NOTE:
Logging must be enabled in ISAFilter or ProxyFilter
After starting the LogAnalyzer Management Console

Right-click Log Info Sources in the left navigation tree, select New
|

Browse to the location of the web filter logs
|
| |
Date format and Log file type should be Auto Detect
|
| |
Right-click on New Report1 in the left navigation tree, select Properties
|
| |
Change the report name to an appropriate report identifier
|
| |
Click the Customize tab
|
| |
Click the Edit button next to Related Log Info Sources
|
| |
Click the radio button for Select individual log info sources
|
| |
Check the box for the log info source specified above

How can we reduce the percent of 'Undefined'?
One
of the 'predefined' reports is the Web Extra report which displays
only URLs that are not categorized and the associated number of
'hits'. No other information is available in the report. This
can be sent to sites@burstek.com for categorization.
The
report should also be reviewed for 'internal' or 'local' URLs that
you can add to the appropriate category.

Customizing the Burstek Category List
Your
organization has an Intranet or has subscribed to a web service
(WSJ, OneSource, etc.) and all employees are encouraged to log onto
this web site. You would like to easily generate a report of employee
activity for this site or sites only.
After starting the bt-LogAnalyzer or bt-ISAFilter
management console:
Step 1 - Create
a new category for the subscription web site.

right-click URL Control List in the left navigation tree, select 'New Category
|
| |
in the new popup window, click Included URLs tab
|
| |
click Add
|
| |
enter a 'wildcard mask' for the website (i.e. if the website is Burstek and the site contains multiple web pages, enter *www.burstek.com* ) NOTE: all masks must start and end with an asterisk (*)

click OK

Step 2 - Create a new report for the category created in step 1 right-click Reports in the left navigation tree, select 'New Report

click the Customize tab
|
| |
click the Edit button for Categories
|
| |
click Select Individual Categories radio button
|

check the box next to the category created in step 1

click Apply and OK

NOTE:
To
reduce the output, check Top Users Activity - Web Pages box
and uncheck all other boxes.

Customizing the Burstek Category List Part Two
Your
organization would like to exclude a web page from one of the pre-defined
categories.
After starting the bt-ISAFilter or bt-LogAnalyzer
management console:
Step 1 - Exclude a web site or web page from a known category.

click the plus sign(+) next to the URL Control List in the left navigation tree

click the plus sign(+) next to the appropriate category name
|
| |
click the plus sign(+) next to Excluded URLs
|
| |
right-click on Own URLs
|
| |
select New URL
|
| |

How do I generate a report of the top 10 websites for the top 10 users?
LogAnalyzer
allows you to 'filter' on previously generated reports. Following
is an example:

Create new 'global' report with only 'Top Users Activity - Web Pages' sub report included.

Set the Maximum Report Lines to 10.
|
| |
Set the required date\time interval for the report.
|
| |
Run this new 'Top 10 Users' report.
|
| |
Create new 'detail' report with 'Top Web Sites' sub report included. NOTE: other sub reports could be included as well.

Set the Maximum Report Lines to 10.
|
| |
Set the required date\time interval for the report.
|
| |
Set the 'Top 10 Users' as a Report filter for the 'Top 10 Sites' report.
|
| |
After 'Top 10 Users' is complete, run 'Top 10 Sites' report.

This will display 10 'Top web Sites' sections, separate for each of the top 10 users.

How do I setup LogAnalyzer to audit for one particular user?
LogAnalyzer
allows you to generate reports on users or groups of users:

Click on the ‘+’ of Reports to expand the tree
|

Right-click on ‘User Audit Details’ and select ‘Properties’ from the menu
|
| |
Click the 'Customize tab
|
| |
Click the ‘Edit’ button of the User area of the dialog box
|
| |
Click the ‘Individual Users and Groups’ radio button
|
| |
Click ‘Add’, your Domain and your groups and users should be listed
|
| |
Click on the user you wish to audit and click the ‘Add’ button
|
| |
If you require to do a detailed audit for other users, repeat the previous step
|
| |
Click on ’OK’ to close the ‘Select Users and Groups’ properties dialog box
|
| |
Click on ‘OK’ to close the ‘Users Properties’ dialog box
|
| |
Click on ‘Apply’ in the ‘User Audit Details Properties’
|
| |
Click on ‘OK’ to close the ‘User Audit Details Properties’ dialog box

Your documentation indicates 'unlimited' reports, but I only see 17 reports.
LogAnalyzer
is delivered with 17 pre-defined reports including 5 for Email and
1 for combined Web and Email. However, LogAnalyzer is so powerful
and flexible the user can create as many reports with as many combinations
of data as desired. To create a new report, right-click on the 'Reports'
node in the left navigation tree, select New Report. Check
the appropriate boxes for the data you to be displayed. Use the
Customize tab to further customize your selection criteria by date,
hour of the day, User or Group. You can even refine your selection
by filtering or selecting based on another report. You can also
assign a specific log file or directory to a report.

When updating the URL Control List, the following message appears "Auto downloader is not installed on the specific computer" This message appears if LogAnalyzer's auto download service is not registered properly. Close the LogAnalyzer Management console and try to re-register it by running the following command from the Windows' Start\Run menu: C:\Program Files\Burstek\Shared\FAutoDownloader.exe -regserver NOTE: the actual path may vary depending on the LogAnalyzer install folder. A re-boot is not required. top
