White Listing Users and or URLs in bt-WebFilter

  1. Open the bt-WebFilter management console

  2. Right click on the ‘Access Rules’ container object in the left navigation window pane

  3. Select ‘Properties’

For URL Whitelisting, click on the ‘URL Whitelist’ tab. Continue with Step 4
For User Whitelisting, click on the ‘User Whitelist’ tab. Continue with Step 8

  4. At the bottom of the ‘URL Whitelist’ tab, click the ‘Add’ button

  5. Enter the URL mask that corresponds to the URL you want to whitelist. For more information regarding URL Masks, please click here

  6. If you want to be able to report on traffic to this URL, ensure the ‘Log Requests’ option is checked. If this box is unchecked, no record of traffic to this URL will be kept.

Note Note: You can enter multiple URL masks on the same line by separating each entry with a semi-colon “;”. e.g. “mysite.com;yoursite.com”

  7. When completed, click ‘OK’. Go to step 12

  8. To whitelist a user, simply click the ‘Add’ button under the ‘User’ portion of the tab.

  9. Enter the name of the user in the field and select ‘Check Names’ to verify. More than one user can be entered.

  10. When completed, click ‘OK’

  11. To Whitelist an IP address or Range of IP addresses, click the appropriate button at the bottom of the tab.

Note Warning: Whitelisted IP addresses bypass all authentication for webfilter. If a normally restricted user accesses the internet on a machine with a Whitelisted IP, that user will have full internet access.

  12. Click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’
